Apple Valley has one of the larger association-governed populations in the south metro, built through the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. If your home sits in one of those neighborhoods, the color decision is not yours alone, and the timeline is the thing that catches people out.

Approval is a written process.

Most associations want the manufacturer, the color name and the code, a physical sample or drawdown, and a statement of which elements are changing — body, trim, garage door, front door, shutters. A verbal "it's beige" does not get approved.

Committees meet on a schedule, not on demand.

Monthly is common. Miss a meeting and the answer arrives four weeks later, which turns an April decision into a June start, which is exactly when the good weeks are already booked.

Rejections are usually about a specific element rather than the whole scheme.

A body color inside the palette with a front door outside it. A trim white that reads warmer than the neighboring units. A shutter color that appears nowhere else in the development. THE SEASON

Approval First, Then the Calendar

Exterior work in this metro runs roughly May through early October, and those weeks are contended. On a governed property there is a second clock running in front of that one.

Working scheduling sequence
