Bloomington sits on largely flat ground, and its ramblers and splits mostly came with a low deck or patio-level platform off the back — a foot or two above grade, sometimes stepping straight onto the lawn.

Why a Low Deck Needs Longer Before It Is Ready

Deck work follows the exterior season here — roughly May through early October — with one constraint that matters more on a ground-level platform than on a raised one: the wood has to be dry through the board, not dry on top.
