Four Things to Look For in Any Painter's Photos
Anyone can make a fresh coat look good from 50 feet. Here is what to inspect up close:
Look at the edges, not the walls.
Anyone can roll a flat wall. The tell is where two surfaces meet: the line where trim meets siding, where the ceiling meets the wall, where a window casing turns a corner. Wobbly cut lines are the single most common sign of a rushed job.
Look for the shots taken close up.
Wide shots hide everything. A crew confident in its work will show you a detail photo of a soffit line or a cabinet door edge. If every photo in a gallery is from thirty feet away, ask why.
Look for the prep, not just the paint.
Before-and-after pairs that show scraped and repaired wood, replaced trim, or a stripped ceiling are showing you the part that decides how long the finish lasts. The color is the easy half.
Ask how old the photo is.
A photo taken the day the crew left tells you what a fresh coat looks like. A photo taken three winters later tells you whether the prep was real. We'd rather show you the second kind.
