Bonus rooms sit inside the roof structure, so what you have is a flat center section with sloped sides running down to knee walls, and dormer returns cutting into them. Every one of those changes of plane is an edge, an inside corner and a return — and edges are where the labor sits. A bonus room and a bedroom of the same floor area are not the same project.

Sitting over an unheated garage with a large roof above it, the room experiences a bigger temperature swing than anywhere else in the house. That produces more nail pops, more seam movement and more corner cracking under the texture than a bedroom ceiling shows.
